Cosmetic Porcelain Veneers & Laminates

Porcelain veneers are thin custom designed and fabricated outer shells of teeth that are used to enhance the appearance of teeth using cosmetic dentistry.  They are used to cover the tooth’s surface to close spaces, properly align teeth, change tooth color and straighten teeth. They are stain resistant and are more identical to natural teeth. They are also highly recommended in the field cosmetic dentistry as they have better light reflecting properties.

Reasons for Getting Veneers & Lumineers

There have been many advancements in porcelain veneers.  The material is looking more natural and it is getting stronger.  All this can help us accomplish all these different types of enhancements.  Veneers can be used to enhance the appearance of;

(i) Discolored teeth

(ii) Worn out teeth

(iii) Chipped, cracked and broken teeth

(iv) Misaligned and irregularly shaped teeth

(v) Gapped or spaced out teeth

Even though these are the main reasons that can call for the use of porcelain veneers & laminates, it is also important to note that some people opt to use veneers not necessarily because they have major dental problems but just to improve their dental appearance. Veneers have great light reflecting properties and this is why most celebrities chose to have them to complement their looks and smile.

The Dental Laminate Process

At your consultation, you will first be subjected to a smile analysis and a diagnostic mock-up will be made based upon your requested smile and the symmetry of your smile.  Next, you will try the veneer with temporary material to be sure you are happy with how the final porcelain will be made. After this, the dentist will construct the preferred veneer shape using a mold of the patient’s tooth. It is then color-matched to the rest of the teeth. Veneers are constructed in a lab and may take a few days to be fabricated.

When the veneers are delivered, they will be ready to be placed. The patient’s tooth surface is first roughened to enhance adhesiveness between the tooth and the veneer. To apply the veneer, the dentist uses little dental adhesive that is hardened by specialized ultraviolet rays. After it is cured, minor adjustments are made to make sure that the veneer blends with the rest of the teeth. You might need to go to the dentist one more time to make sure the veneer is in the perfect shape and position before it completely heals. After the procedure is done, you should expect mild tooth sensitivity because of the enamel that was removed during roughening. It will however subsidize within a few days.

Proper Maintenance for Porcelain Veneers & Laminates

Unlike most dental solutions veneers require very little maintenance. Treat your veneers as if they were organic teeth. Routine brushing and flossing using non-abrasive toothpaste is recommended. It is also advisable to visit your dentist immediately if there are any noticeable deformities after being applied.
